Trim any excess fat from the brisket and pat it dry.
In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, ground black pepper, and salt to create a dry rub.
Rub the spice mixture generously over the brisket.
Optional: Sear the brisket in a hot skillet with oil for 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
Transfer the brisket to the slow cooker and pour the beef broth around it.
Pour half of the barbecue sauce over the brisket.
Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 4 to 6 hours.
Once cooked, remove the brisket and let it rest before shredding it with two forks.
Return the shredded brisket to the slow cooker and mix with the remaining barbecue sauce.
Toast the sandwich buns lightly.
