Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Peeled and cut yams into even-sized chunks, approximately 1-inch thick.
In a large mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until smooth.
Add the cut yams to the bowl and toss gently until fully coated.
Grease a baking dish and transfer the coated yams into it, spreading them evenly.
Pour water into the bottom of the baking dish.
Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 20 to 30 minutes until fork-tender.
Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with additional cinnamon or nuts if desired.
Notes
These yams can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Reheat before serving.
