Dough Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour Forms the base of the dough.
  • 2 teaspoons Active dry yeast Essential for leavening the dough.
  • 1 cup Warm water Around 110°F to activate the yeast.
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar Helps activate the yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor and controls yeast activity.

Filling Ingredients

  • 2 large Eggs For the filling and egg wash.
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese Shredded, for flavor.
  • 1 pound Ground sausage The main filling ingredient.
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Melted, for brushing before baking.

Instructions
 

  • In a small bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.
  • Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture along with the eggs. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • While the dough rises, cook the ground sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Let it cool slightly.
  • In a bowl, combine the cooked sausage, beaten eggs, and cheddar cheese. Mix well.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle.
  • Spread the sausage filling evenly across the dough, leaving a border.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 pieces. Place in a greased baking dish.
  • Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush the tops with melted butter and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Enjoy warm or store for later!
