  • 1 loaf French Bread A 12-inch loaf is ideal for serving four to six people.
  • 2 medium Yellow Onions Thinly sliced for even cooking.
  • 4-5 cloves Garlic Minced, adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Melted, for richness and flavor.
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese Freshly grated for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley Chopped, for garnish.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 20-25 minutes until caramelized.
  • Add minced garlic to the caramelized onions and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Transfer the onion and garlic mixture to a bowl and allow it to cool slightly. Slice the French bread in half lengthwise and place on a baking sheet, cut side up.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter and half of the grated Parmesan cheese to create a garlic butter spread.
  • Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
  • Top the buttered bread with the caramelized onion and garlic mixture, then sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing.
  • Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
  • Slice and serve warm.

Notes

For variations, consider adding mozzarella cheese, crushed red pepper flakes, or experimenting with different types of bread.
