Instructions
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.
Add sliced onions and season with salt. Cook on medium-low heat until caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
In a mixing bowl, season ground beef with salt, pepper, and thyme. Form into four patties.
Once onions are caramelized, add beef broth and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
Cook patties in another skillet or grill for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
In the last minute of cooking, sprinkle cheese on patties and cover to melt.
Assemble by placing a patty on a plate and spooning caramelized onions over the top.
Serve with toasted hamburger buns on the side if desired.
Notes
Store leftovers separately in airtight containers. Beef patties can be refrigerated for up to three days.
