Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 20-25 minutes until caramelized.
Add minced garlic to the caramelized onions and sauté for an additional 2 minutes.
In a separate skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it into small pieces until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
Combine the caramelized onions and garlic with the browned beef. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme.
Pour in the beef broth and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
In a greased baking dish, layer half of the beef mixture, then half of the cheese. Repeat with remaining mixture and cheese.
Top with French fried onions. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
