Instructions

  • Prepare your ingredients: dice the onion, julienne the carrots, and cube the beef. Rinse the rice under cold water until clear, then soak for 30 minutes.
  • In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the cubed beef and sear until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the julienned carrots and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  • Incorporate the spices (cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and pepper) and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot, folding it gently into the mixture.
  • Pour in the water or beef broth, ensuring it covers the rice by about an inch. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  • Check the rice for doneness. If necessary, add a splash of water and cook for a few more minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let rest, covered, for 10 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

For variations, consider adding dried fruits, adjusting spices for heat, or using different vegetables. This dish can also be made vegetarian by substituting beef with chickpeas or lentils.
