- 1/2 cup Coconut oil melted
- 3 tablespoons Maple syrup
- 1/2 cup Cocoa powder I used dark cocoa powder
- 1 cup Unsweetened applesauce
In a large mixing bowl, combine your coconut oil, maple syrup, and cocoa powder. Mix until a glossy liquid chocolate texture remains.
Add your unsweetened applesauce. Start with 1 cup and, depending on what texture you are after, increase.
Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes to thicken slightly.
If you need to use it immediately, add a teaspoon or two of cornstarch, or as needed.
- For a thinner, drippy frosting: Add more applesauce (or maple syrup).
- TO STORE: Leftover frosting should be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Let it sit at room temperature to soften.
- TO FREEZE: Place frosting in a freezer-friendly container and store in the freezer for up to 2 months.
