Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare lasagna noodles according to package instructions, if using traditional noodles. If using no-boil, set aside.
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip each slice of bread into the melted butter, coating both sides. Toast on a baking sheet in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
Mix shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses in a bowl.
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Layer toasted bread on top of the sauce, overlapping slightly.
Sprinkle cheese mixture over the bread, followed by Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Add another layer of tomato sauce, then repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.
Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Let cool for 10 minutes, garnish with fresh basil if desired, then slice and serve warm.
