  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter For toasting the bread layers.

  • 2 cups Tomato Sauce Choose marinara or homemade for best flavor.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Prepare lasagna noodles according to package instructions, if using traditional noodles. If using no-boil, set aside.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip each slice of bread into the melted butter, coating both sides. Toast on a baking sheet in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
  • Mix shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses in a bowl.
  • Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Layer toasted bread on top of the sauce, overlapping slightly.
  • Sprinkle cheese mixture over the bread, followed by Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Add another layer of tomato sauce, then repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes, garnish with fresh basil if desired, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

For variations, consider adding cooked ground meat, vegetables, or different cheeses. Serve with a side salad or garlic bread.
