Ingredients
  

Crust Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups All-purpose flour Sifted to remove lumps.
  • 0.5 cups Granulated sugar For the crust.
  • 0.5 cups Unsalted butter Melted for the crust.

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 cups Granulated sugar For the filling.
  • 3 large Eggs To bind the filling.
  • 0.25 cups Unsalted butter Melted for the filling.
  • 4 ounces German chocolate Finely chopped and melted.
  • 1.5 cups Chopped pecans For filling and topping.
  • 1 cup Sweetened shredded coconut For topping.
  • 1 pinch Salt To balance sweetness.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour, ½ cup of sugar, and a pinch of salt.
  • Pour in melted butter and combine until crumbly.
  • Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • Bake the crust for about 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
  • While the crust bakes, melt the German chocolate in a saucepan over low heat.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of sugar, eggs, and melted butter. Beat until light and frothy.
  • Add the melted chocolate and stir until fully incorporated.
  • Fold in pecans and coconut.
  • Pour the filling over the pre-baked crust and spread evenly.
  • Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until firm.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
  • Cut into squares or rectangles and serve.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days or refrigerate for a longer shelf life.
