Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Chef's Knife
  • Oven
  • Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread a large fluffy loaf
  • 1/2 cup butter softened (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup shaved parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped herbs (thyme, parsley, basil, and/or rosemary) or 2 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F. This high temperature is key to getting that perfect crispy exterior.
  • Set out a large baking sheet to prepare for the bread. Lining the sheet with parchment paper can ensure easy cleanup.
  • Cut the loaf of bread in half, parallel to the cutting board. Aim for even halves to ensure both pieces cook evenly.
  • Lay both pieces of bread cut-side-up on the baking sheet. This allows the garlic butter mixture to soak into the bread while it bakes.
  • In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, parmesan cheese, olive oil, minced garlic, chopped herbs, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Smash and mix until well combined. The result should be a spreadable, creamy mixture.
  • Spread a thick, even layer of the garlic butter over the top of each piece of bread. Ensure you reach the edges to get the full flavor in every bite.
  • Don’t be shy—use it all! Each piece should be generously coated.
  • Place the baking sheet on the center rack of the preheated oven and bake for about 8 minutes. Keep an eye on it; you want the edges to be golden brown but not burnt.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and immediately cut into slices. This makes it easier to serve and enjoy while it's still warm.
  • Serve the garlic bread hot. Enjoy the delightful aroma and the delicious taste!

Notes

  • Storage: If you have leftovers, wrap and refrigerate them for 3 to 5 days. Rewarm in the oven for optimal taste.
  • Freezing: You can prepare the bread ahead of time, wrap it, and freeze it before baking. Bake from frozen for about 10 to 12 minutes when ready to serve.
  • Herb Variations: Experiment with different herbs like oregano or chives to give your garlic bread a unique twist.
  • Serving Ideas: Serve this garlic bread alongside pasta, salad, or soups for a complete meal.
  • Toast it Up: For extra crunch, toast the bread slices in the oven for an additional minute after baking.
