Instructions
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of instant yeast, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Whisk these dry ingredients together until well blended.
Step 2: In a separate bowl, melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and allow it to cool slightly. Add 1 cup of warm milk to the melted butter and stir until combined.
Step 3: Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the butter and milk mixture into it. Gently mix with a spatula until a shaggy dough forms.
Step 4: Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Step 5: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Step 6: After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, approximately 12×18 inches in size.
Step 7: Brush the surface of the dough with melted butter and sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the entire surface.
Step 8: Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log and cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
Step 9: Grease a muffin tin and place each piece of rolled dough into the cups, cut side up. Let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
Step 10: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare an egg wash by whisking one large egg and brush the tops of the cruffins.
Step 11: Bake the cruffins for 20-25 minutes or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
Step 12: Once baked, let them cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
