Filling Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese Softened for easy mixing.
  • 2 cups Fresh Strawberries Hulled and sliced.
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar For dusting on top.

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Whisk together.
  • Add 1 cup of cold, cubed unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Dissolve 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast in 1 cup of warm milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • Beat 1 large egg and add it to the yeast mixture. Pour this into the flour and butter mixture.
  • Mix until a dough forms. Knead gently on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  • In a medium bowl, beat 8 ounces of softened cream cheese until smooth. Stir in 1/4 cup of granulated sugar.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 4x4 inch squares.
  • Place a spoonful of cream cheese mixture and a few slices of fresh strawberries in the center of each square.
  • Fold the corners over the filling to create a pocket and pinch seams to seal. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F and let the Danish rest for about 20 minutes.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
