Instructions
Begin by activating the yeast. In a small bowl, combine 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast with 1 cup of warm milk and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 3 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix well.
Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture. Add 4 tablespoons of melted butter and combine until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour.
Prepare the filling by mixing 8 ounces of softened cream cheese with 4-5 cloves of minced garlic and chopped green onions.
After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each into a ball.
Flatten each dough ball, place a tablespoon of filling in the center, fold over, and seal. Place seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Cover the buns with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Brush the tops with the egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Let the buns cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
For variations, consider adding red pepper flakes for spice or using different cheeses.
