Instructions
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.
Add the thinly sliced onions to the skillet and cook for about 10 to 15 minutes until caramelized.
Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and form into patties about ¾ inch thick.
Season both sides of each patty with salt and black pepper.
Remove the caramelized onions from the skillet and set aside. Cook the beef patties for about 3 to 4 minutes on one side.
Flip the patties, top with caramelized onions, and cover the skillet to melt cheese if desired.
Toast the hamburger buns lightly in a separate pan or on the grill.
Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on each bun and adding any desired toppings.
