Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until evenly mixed.
  • Add softened butter to the dry ingredients and work it into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Crack in the egg and mix until the dough comes together. Add cold water if needed.
  • Press about two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, combine diced apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and lemon juice. Toss until apples are well coated.
  • Spread the apple filling evenly over the crust.
  • Crumble the remaining dough over the top of the apple filling.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  • Allow to cool on a wire rack for 20-30 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally dusted with powdered sugar or with ice cream.

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
