Equipment

  • Food Processor

Ingredients

  • 1 can low-sodium chickpeas 15-ounce can or 1 ½ cups of cooked chickpeas
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon tahini
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • strawberries hulled and sliced in halves
  • kiwi peeled and sliced
  • pretzels, crackers, cookies for serving

Instructions

  • Gather all of your ingredients. You’ll need your can of chickpeas, cocoa powder, tahini, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt. Make sure everything is within reach for a smooth preparation.
  • Open the can of chickpeas and drain them. Rinse them under cold water to remove any excess sodium. This step ensures your hummus won’t taste overly salty.
  • In the bowl of your food processor, add the drained chickpeas, followed by the cocoa powder, tahini, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt. The combination of these ingredients creates the perfect base for your hummus.
  • Pulse the mixture for about 30 seconds. You’ll want to break down the ingredients into a rough mixture at this stage. Scrape down the sides of the bowl to incorporate all ingredients.
  • Continue pulsing until the mixture becomes very smooth. This may take about 3 to 5 minutes. The longer you blend, the creamier your Chocolate Hummus will be, so be patient and let your food processor work its magic.
  • If you prefer a thinner consistency, you can add water gradually. Just a tablespoon at a time, pulse, and check the texture. Be cautious not to thin it out too much.
  • Once you’re satisfied with the consistency, transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.
  • Drizzle some maple syrup on top for an extra touch of sweetness. This also adds a beautiful glaze to your hummus.
  • Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top for garnish. They not only enhance the presentation but add delightful bursts of chocolate.
  • Lastly, serve your Chocolate Hummus with strawberries, kiwi, pretzels, or any of your favorite dippers. Enjoy this sweet delight with friends or savor it alone!
