Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Frying Pan
  • Whisk
  • Baking Sheet
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 3 medium very ripe bananas mashed
  • 1/4 cup butter unsalted, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips divided

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 by 5 inch loaf pan well with cooking spray, set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another medium-sized bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Add the butter, eggs, yogurt, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix all of these ingredients together until completely smooth and well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Add 3/4 cup of the semisweet chocolate chips, gently fold together until just mixed. Be careful not to overmix; you want to keep that bread nice and tender.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips on top. Bake for 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the bread comes out with just a few crumbs.
  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove to a cooling rack and continue to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • Tip 1: Keep leftover banana bread wrapped tightly in plastic wrap or in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
  • Tip 2: You can freeze banana bread for up to three months. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil to prevent freezer burn.
  • Tip 3: Enjoy your banana bread with a cup of coffee or tea. It also pairs well with a light smear of cream cheese or peanut butter.
  • Tip 4: Feel free to mix in nuts like walnuts or pecans for added crunch, or swap out some of the flour for whole wheat to make it heartier.
  • Tip 5: Serve warm, fresh from the oven, or lightly toasted for breakfast or as a snack anytime.
