  • 2 cups Warm Water Between 100°F and 110°F for activating yeast.
  • 1 packet Active Dry Yeast Approximately 2 1/4 teaspoons.
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar Adds sweetness and feeds the yeast.
  • 4 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour Main structure for the pretzel bites.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter Melted for richness.
  • 1/2 cup Baking Soda For the boiling solution.
  • 1 each Egg Beaten for egg wash.
  • to taste Coarse Sea Salt For sprinkling on top.

Instructions
 

  • 1. Combine warm water, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • 2. In another bowl, mix all-purpose flour and salt. Pour the yeast mixture and melted butter into the flour mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  • 3. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • 4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  • 5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • 6. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and carefully add the baking soda.
  • 7. Punch down the risen dough, turn it out onto a floured surface, and divide into 6 portions. Roll each into a rope and cut into 1-inch pieces.
  • 8. Drop the pretzel bites into the boiling water in batches for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on the baking sheet.
  • 9. Brush the boiled bites with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  • 10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Brush with melted butter after baking.
  • 11. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with dipping sauces.

Notes

For variations, consider adding cheese to the dough or experimenting with different seasonings. Serve with a variety of dipping sauces for added flavor.
