Equipment

  • Food Processor
  • Grater

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 large Avocado
  • 1/4 cup Cotija cheese, finely grated
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin, chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne, more or less to taste
  • to taste salt

Instructions

  • 1. Start by gathering all your ingredients: sour cream, Avocado, Cotija cheese, honey, lime juice, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, pepper, and cayenne. Lay them out on your kitchen counter for easy access.
  • 2. Cut the Avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a food processor. Make sure to choose a ripe avocado for that creamy texture that makes this dip so delightful.
  • 3. Next, add the sour cream or Greek yogurt to the processor. This will contribute to the dip's creaminess, so don’t skip it!
  • 4. Now, add the Cotija cheese. Its salty flavor will enhance the overall taste of the dip.
  • 5. Pour in the honey and lime juice. The honey will add a touch of sweetness, while the lime juice brings a refreshing zing.
  • 6. Sprinkle in the cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, and pepper. These spices are essential for adding depth and warming flavors to your dip.
  • 7. Finally, season with cayenne and salt to taste. If you like a little heat, don’t be shy with the cayenne!
  • 8. Secure the lid of the food processor and blend everything together until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency. Stop to scrape down the sides as needed to ensure everything is well combined.
  • 9. Once blended, transfer the dip to an airtight container. Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the dip to prevent browning.
  • 10. Chill the dip in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving. This resting time allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.

Notes

  • Storage: Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It’s best consumed within two days for optimal freshness.
  • Freezing: While it’s not ideal to freeze Avocado Dip because it can change the texture, you can freeze individual servings in an ice cube tray for later use in smoothies.
  • Pairing: Serve your dip with crispy tortilla chips, fresh vegetable sticks, or as a topping for grilled chicken or fish for a delightful meal.
  • Presentation: For a beautiful presentation, serve the dip in a colorful bowl and garnish with additional crumbled Cotija cheese or chopped fresh herbs.
  • Additions: Feel free to mix in some diced tomatoes or chopped cilantro for extra flavor and color.
