Oven
- 2 sheets frozen puff pastry thawed
- 1 egg beaten egg
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- to taste black pepper
- 1 cup shredded gouda cheese
- 1 cup shredded fontina cheese
- 3 tablespoons chopped peppercinis
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
- 3 cloves chopped garlic
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
- to taste chili flakes
- 1 jar marinated artichokes drained (14 ounce or two 7.5 oz jars)
- for drizzling honey
Preheat the oven to 425° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll the puff pastry out a little to stretch it and then transfer it to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg.
Take the second sheet of pastry and cut four (1/2 inch) wide strips. Stick the strips around the edges of the larger sheet of pastry, pressing to adhere.
Brush the edges of the big pastry sheet with the egg, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and black pepper.
Prick the inside of the pastry all over with a fork. This prevents the pastry from puffing up too much in the oven.
Working inside the borders, arrange the peppercinis, basil, thyme, garlic, lemon zest, and chili flakes on the pastry.
Evenly sprinkle the cheeses over the top. Add the artichokes and lightly drizzle over a squeeze of honey.
Chill in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the pastry is golden and the cheese is melted.
- Tip 1: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat in the oven to restore crispiness.
- Tip 2: You can freeze the assembled tart before baking. Just thaw and bake when you're ready to enjoy it!
- Tip 3: Serve the tart with a fresh salad for a complete meal. A light vinaigrette complements the richness of the tart perfectly.
- Tip 4: Feel free to experiment with other vegetables, like spinach or roasted red peppers, for added flavor and nutrition.
- Tip 5: For a different flavor, try substituting gouda with other cheeses, like brie or cream cheese.
