  • 1 packet instant yeast Essential for leavening the dough.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Adds a touch of sweetness to the dough.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavor of the dough.
  • 1 cup warm milk Activates the yeast and hydrates the dough.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter Adds richness and moisture to the dough.
  • 2 large eggs Provide structure and help bind the ingredients together.

Cheesecake Filling Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese The base of the filling, adding creaminess and richness.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Sweetens the filling.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances the flavor of the cream cheese.
  • 1 large egg Binds the filling together and adds richness.

Apple Filling Ingredients

  • 2 large apples Peeled and diced; use a mix of sweet and tart varieties.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adds warmth and spice to the apple mixture.
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar Sweetens the apples.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Brightens the flavor of the apples and prevents browning.

Topping Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar For dusting over the buns before serving.
  • 1 tablespoon milk To create a simple glaze if desired.

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is ready, add the melted butter and eggs to it. Gradually incorporate the flour mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft dough begins to form.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a clean kitchen towel. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  • While the dough is rising, prepare the cheesecake filling. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the diced apples with cinnamon, sugar, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Turn it out onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the cheesecake filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the apple mixture evenly over the cheesecake layer.
  • Starting from one long edge, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch the seam to seal it. Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
  • Place the sliced buns cut side up in a greased baking dish, leaving some space between each bun for expansion. Cover the dish with a towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the buns have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove the buns from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. If desired, mix the powdered sugar and milk to create a glaze and drizzle it over the warm buns. Serve them warm.
