- 1/2 cup mayonnaise: This adds creaminess and richness to each bite. Spread it generously on the tortillas.
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese: A must for that authentic Italian flavor, freshly grated cheese melts beautifully into the wrap.
- 4 large pieces of lettuce leaf: Crisp and refreshing, lettuce adds a nice crunch.
- 2 Roma tomatoes: Juicy and flavorful, these are sliced to add freshness.
- 1 large ripe avocado: Creamy and nutrient-rich, avocado slices elevate the wraps.
- 1 cup cooked chicken: Use leftover shredded or chopped rotisserie chicken for convenience and flavor.
- 1/3 cup Italian dressing: Drizzle this over the fillings for a burst of flavor.
- Salt and pepper: Essential for seasoning to taste.

Putting Together Italian Wraps

Let’s dive into the process of making these delightful Italian Wraps. It’s as easy as 1-2-3, and in no time, you’ll have a delicious meal ready to enjoy!
- Start by preparing the flour tortillas. If you’re using unbaked tortillas, warm them in a skillet for about a minute on each side until they’re soft and pliable. If you have already-baked tortillas, just heat them in the microwave under a damp paper towel for 10 seconds.
- Once the tortillas are warm, let them cool slightly. Now, take a table knife and spread about 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise evenly over each tortilla, reaching all the way to the edges for maximum flavor.
- Next, sprinkle approximately 2 tablespoons of freshly grated Parmesan cheese on top of the mayo. This cheesy layer will melt slightly when warm, creating a delicious foundation for your wraps.
- Now it’s time to add the greens. Lay down one large lettuce leaf on each tortilla. If your leaves are small, feel free to use two. You want a nice crunch!
- Slice the Roma tomatoes thinly and distribute them evenly among the tortillas. Fresh tomatoes not only add flavor but also a beautiful color contrast.
- Next comes the avocado. Carefully remove the pit and skin, then slice the avocado thinly. Distribute the slices evenly across the tortillas, adding that creamy goodness.
- Now, top each tortilla with around 1/4 cup of cooked chicken. Use shredded rotisserie chicken for convenience, and feel free to add more if you’re feeling hungry!
- Drizzle Italian dressing over the fillings. You can adjust the amount based on your taste preference, but this adds a zesty kick.
- Season everything with a sprinkle of salt and pepper to taste. A little seasoning goes a long way!
- Slightly crush the croutons and divide them evenly among the tortillas for that delightful crunch. If you like, ribbon the fresh basil and sprinkle it on top too.
- Finally, roll each tortilla tightly from one end to the other. Enjoy your Italian Wraps immediately for the best flavor and texture!
Things Worth Knowing
- Warm Tortillas: Always warm your tortillas before assembling. This makes them easier to roll and prevents cracking.
- Ingredient Quality: Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. This significantly enhances the overall flavor of your wraps.
- Customize: Feel free to add your favorite ingredients or switch them out based on what’s in season!
- Assembly Tip: Don’t overfill your wraps. A well-balanced filling prevents any mess and makes rolling easier.
- Storage: For best results, serve these wraps fresh. If you must prepare them in advance, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and keep them in the fridge for up to a few hours.
Ways to Customize

One of the best things about Italian Wraps is how adaptable they are. Here are some ideas to make them your own:
- Add more protein: Try adding sliced turkey, ham, or even a plant-based protein for variety.
- Mix in some spice: For a kick, add sliced jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce to the mix.
- Experiment with dressings: While Italian dressing is classic, you could try ranch or a homemade vinaigrette for a twist.
- Incorporate different cheeses: Mix it up with mozzarella, feta, or even goat cheese for a unique flavor.
- Serve with a side: Pair your wraps with a fresh salad or a hearty soup for a complete meal.
- Wrap it up: If you’re feeling creative, try using lettuce leaves instead of tortillas for a low-carb option.
Side Dish Ideas for Italian Wraps
Serving Italian Wraps is a fun opportunity to get creative with sides! Here are some ideas:
- Fresh Garden Salad: A simple side salad with mixed greens, cucumbers, and a light vinaigrette complements the wraps perfectly.
- Chips and Dip: Serve with crunchy tortilla chips and a spicy salsa or guacamole for a delightful contrast.
- Fruit Salad: A refreshing fruit salad with seasonal berries and melons adds a sweet touch to your meal.
- Soup: Pair with a light minestrone or tomato basil soup for a comforting combination.
- Antipasto Platter: Create a charcuterie board with olives, cheese, and cured meats for a more Italian flair.
- Occasions: These wraps are great for casual lunches, picnics, or even as a light dinner. They’re perfect for gatherings and can be made ahead of time!

Italian Wraps
Equipment
- Baking Sheet
- Chef's Knife
- Grater
- Frying Pan
Ingredients
- 4 pieces Flour Tortillas I love TortillaLand unbaked tortillas
- 1/2 cup Mayonnaise divided, I love Best Foods/Hellman’s
- 1/2 cup Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese divided, see note 1
- 4 pieces Lettuce Leaf
- 2 pieces Roma Tomatoes
- 1 piece Ripe Avocado
- 1 cup Cooked Chicken leftover shredded or chopped rotisserie chicken, or leftover grilled chicken
- 1/3 cup Italian Dressing see note 2
- to taste Salt and Pepper
- 1/2 cup Croutons see note 3
- 10 leaves Fresh Basil optional
Instructions
- Prepare the tortillas according to package directions. (I use unbaked tortillas, which need to be warmed through in a pan for about a minute.) Let cool slightly. If using already-baked tortillas, warm under a damp paper towel in the microwave for 10 seconds.
- Using a table knife, spread the mayo evenly on all the tortillas—2 tablespoons per tortilla. Top each tortilla with about 2 tablespoons freshly/finely grated Parmesan cheese. Use a zester or the small sides of a cheese grater to grate the cheese.
- Lay down 1 large lettuce leaf (or 2 smaller ones) on each tortilla. Thinly slice the tomatoes and divide evenly among the 4 tortillas. Remove the pit and skin of the avocado, thinly slice, and add an even amount of slices to the tortillas.
- Top the tortillas evenly with the prepared chicken—as much as you’d like; I add about 1/4 cup per tortilla. Drizzle the Italian dressing evenly on each tortilla on top of the chicken—again to personal preference.
- If desired, add a tiny pinch of salt and pepper. Slightly crush the croutons and divide them evenly among the 4 tortillas. Optionally ribbon the basil and divide evenly among the tortillas.
- Roll up tightly and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Tip 1: Grate a block of Parmesan cheese on the small holes of a cheese grater or on a zester for a super fine, nice texture. Measure loosely. I don’t recommend jarred or canned Parmesan cheese—the flavor will be overpowering and too salty on these wraps.
- Tip 2: I like Olive Garden’s Signature Italian Dressing best in these wraps. They also sell a lite version that will work here. If you prefer homemade, I share a homemade dressing from this Olive Garden salad that can be used on these wraps.
- Tip 3: I love the Olive Garden Garlic & Romano croutons as a store-bought option.
- Tip 4: For the best flavor and texture, it’s best to make Italian wraps fresh. Once the ingredients are combined, they don’t store well.
