- For the Butter Cookie Dough:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled

- Granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
- Melted chocolate (dark, milk, or white – halal certified)
- Colourful sprinkles (halal certified)
Instructions
- Make the Dough: Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in egg yolk and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Chill the Dough: Divide dough in half, flatten into disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Shape the Cookies: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll dough to ¼-inch thick and cut into shapes or pipe into swirls using a star tip.
- Bake: Sprinkle with sugar if desired. Bake for 8-12 minutes until edges are golden. Cool on a wire rack.
- Decorate: Dip or drizzle cooled cookies with melted chocolate and sprinkles, if desired.
Notes
For a nutty twist, add ½ teaspoon almond extract to the dough. These cookies store well in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
